Solar & Energy Efficiency Installation Will Save This Loveland Family’s Home Over $40K on Energy Costs
There are a lot of good reasons to install residential solar panels. For Loveland, Ohio homeowner Luke Magee and his family, it came down to three big ones: utility bill savings, the long-term value of their house, and their carbon footprint.
Their solar journey began with a free energy assessment from Sustainergy Cooperative. During the assessment, we uncovered a variety of energy efficiency issues in the house. Addressing these issues first would help the Magee family maximize the financial and environmental benefits they were looking for.
We implemented several upgrades, from advanced attic insulation to smart thermostats, each step meticulously planned to maximize their energy savings and minimize their carbon footprint. These improvements set the stage for an energy efficient home that would fully benefit from the new solar installation. We call this approach Smart Solar and use it to help our clients get more out of their investments in solar panels.
The results were impressive. The Magees are now looking at an estimated lifetime savings of $40,910.81!
System Size & Details
We installed a 12.60 kW rooftop solar energy system for the Magee family. It includes 30 Silfab solar panels, which are manufactured in North America and designed specifically for its climate, making them the ideal solar panels for houses in the Greater Cincinnati area. We also installed an EV charger for the family’s new Ford F-150 Lighting, allowing them to cut their charging costs and charge on 100% clean, renewable energy.
System Size - 12.60 kW
Number of Panels - 30 Silfab Solar Modules
Estimated Lifetime Savings - $40,910.81 (based on a conservative 4% yearly escalation rate)
Energy Efficiency Upgrades Set the Stage for Solar
Before installing the solar power system, we performed several energy efficiency upgrades to enhance the home's overall performance.
Attic insulation & air sealing - Upgraded to R60
Installed a smart thermostat
Sealed HVAC ductwork
Calibrated the water heater for maximum energy efficiency
Insulated pipes
Replaced existing light bulbs with LEDs
These improvements alone are expected to decrease the household’s electricity and gas usage by 10 to 20% a year! When combined with the savings provided by their new solar panels system, the Magees are looking at serious financial payback. Their investment in energy efficiency and solar panels will pay for itself and then some.
